Carisbrooke TravelSafe Partnership

TravelSafe Groups

Vision Statement

TravelSafe Groups in Schools hope to encourage a partnership approach in working with the relevant organisations but driven by Middle and High School pupils to inspire ownership and project longevity to successfully improve and encourage travelling on the Islands transport Network, thus reducing our carbon footprint in order to protect our future.

To date TravelSafe has been set up and is running within 6 schools. The young people of Sandown initially designed the first TravelSafe poster that went out to all schools before Christmas 2007, which is displayed on the transport vehicles, ferries and trains to promote safe, responsible travel whilst encouraging more young people to use public transport to access school and to leisure facilities. This same group, who from the TravelSafe poster project have now launched their own design Company ‘Wight Sky’ are now busy designing the credit card pull out for TravelSafe fto go to all children at middle and high schools on the Isle of Wight, soon to be replicated in the New Forest.

The young people of Carisbrooke, Christ the King College and the Isle of Wight College have successfully worked together to produce a TravelSafe questionnaire that is applicable to all the Islands public transport providers and has produced some interesting results, evaluated and disseminated to the group by the Hampshire Constabulary.

Finaly a TravelSafe pack has been put together to enable other schools to form groups to follow the generic Island TravelSafe groups set up and ethos.

It includes;

  • Proposed structure
  • Roles and responsibilities
  • Template for agenda
  • Template for minutes
  • Template for the constitution
  • Template for the action plan
  • TravelSafe questionnaires
  • Marketing including posters and pull out wallet information

Future projects on the horizon for TravelSafe is a DVD project, further promoting safe and responsible travel to everyone, reducing crime and the fear of crime, tackling bullying issues thus encouraging more people to use public transport, reducing congestion and the carbon footprint.
